Narrative ideas
For all my life, I have struggled with career prospects. When I was very young blocks and lego's were my favorite toys. I built tower after tower and cityscape after cityscape. Destroying tower after tower and cityscape after cityscape. The natural career for me would be architect design or architect engineering right? Wrong. When school started I loved to read. It was my newfound love and I spent more time reading then breathing. I read the entire school library. Natural choice for me would be a literature studies or english degree right? Wrong! I also enjoyed math, so much so that I was privately tutored by older higher level teachers. Math major right? Wrong! I began playing music in 5th grade and continued it all the way through graduation. There were only a few occasions where I wasn't at the top of my performing group. Obvious choice would be a performance major right? Maybe... It tears me to say it was wrong. Initially though it was my choice of major. I have worked so hard in my musical career, and excelled so far, but the field is highly competitive and I couldn't keep up regrettably. One thing though that has stayed with me though is flying kites with my dad every chance we got in the park. One of the happiest days of my life was when I got my first stunt kite. Two trips later, shattered. I then got a better model, another happy day for me. We went on a trip to California and picked up a 2.7 meter parafoil kite. This kite is by far the most fun I have had flying kites. Despite the fact that the kite has thrown me 30 feet, thrown out two ribs, ruined 5 shirts, and slid me across the park 150 ft on my stomach, I love it. It captured my intrest for life and fixated my mind on flying in the sky. This kite really is what has charged me towards the sky and was the deciding factor for me to go into aerospace engineering.

I think you have already really refined what you want to talk about and I actually really like the thought you have put into how the kite really has changed your life and made you think about what you want to do and i am excited to see how your paper turns out and to see how exactly the kite influenced your decision. I would say to think about other ideas for your paper as well but your idea already seems so refined and thought out that it seems like the best choice would be to just continue with what you are more passionate about.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great story about your life and your many career paths. It really gave us a feeling of the struggle you went through to find what you really wanted to do. I loved all of the examples you gave about your kite flying experiences. If you could cut all of those experiences down to a single event that really made you realize that the only logical path for you to take would be to be an aerospace engineer. I really like your writing style just form your blog it has a great sense of energy with your exaggerations and such. I hope I am able to read your paper it will be great.
